FALL R.E.P.O.R.T

Hey 2DAers,

We are here with a new seasonal R.E.P.O.R.T, where we will be sharing what we are Reading, Eating, Playing, Obsessing over, Recommending, and Treating. Apologies for the delay in updating our REPORT due to recent busyness, but rest assured, we have been keeping track of everything!

Reading

This month we are reading Table for Two by Amor Towles. This is a series of six short stories based in NYC, and one novella set in Hollywood's Golden Era. If you were a fan of Gentleman in Moscow, you won't want to pass this book up.

How can Towles, even in short stories, make you feel, smell and hear everything he writes about? He's like a human time-travelling machine.

Each story has a little lesson, almost like a modern-day fable. Towles writes with humour and wit and makes the reader connect with every character.

If you haven't read any of Towles writing, this would be a great intro to his work.

Eating
Our Pomegranate tablecloth

Ok, this should read, EATING ON. Our long awaited tablecloths are back in stock! New designs will cover all the bases, but look how pretty this one is for your fall and winter dining options. Shop online here or make an appointment to visit our studio!

Playing
Tiffany Mahjong Set

Call us late to the game, but we are slightly obsessed with Mahjong! My Mum (and Tessa's Grandmother) has been bugging us to learn for years. We finally ordered our tiles and kit this summer and have been trying to perfect this oddly obsessive game.

You can get carried away with the tiles for sale ($15,000 Tiffany set pictured), but we recommend this American Mahjong Set from Amazon.

As Julia Roberts put it on The Late Show, "The concept is to create order out of chaos based on a random drawing of tiles, sort of like life!"

Obsessing

Other than Mahjong, we are swooning over anything burgundy. It's a colour that evokes such fall feels, before the real chill of winter sets in.

This Claude bag from Sezane fits the bill!

We are also loving these kitten heel shoes from Reformation. So pretty...

And getting on the sweater/jacket trend, this maroon one from Zara is trés chic.

Recommending

It was just Tessa's reading week from Uni so we decided to do a little "close to home" stay-cation in Buffalo, NY!

Buffalo is a quick drive from Toronto/Creemore, and it really didn't disappoint. It requires one night and two full days to enjoy.

First stop- the outlet mall just before you get to Niagara Falls, Ontario. Artizia, Lululemon, Ralph Lauren, Ugg...

Ok, across the border we go- in no particular order:

Culture:

Buffalo AKG Art Museum- a must! Beautifully restored and re-opened in 2023. Impressive collections of modern and contemporary art.

Birchfield Penny Art Centre- showcasing artists from the area and NY. It's directly across the street from the AKG.

The Martin House by Frank Lloyd Wright- a historic museum residence in a charming neighborhood in Buffalo. It's known to be one of Wright's most important works.

Millionaires Row- Drive slowly down Delaware Ave, you'll see mansions that were built from the 1800s to the 1920s. Crazy fact: In the late 1800s, Buffalo had more millionaires per capita than any other city in America.

Eat:

The Dapper Goose- YUM! Delicious food, cool ambience.

In the Five Points neighbourhood (5 intersecting streets) we went to some cute cafés and a great pizza restaurant. Butterblock Café, Remedy House, Five Points Bakery, Extra Extra Pizza. Click on the links just to get an idea of how cool these places are!

Of course, we had to go to The Anchor Bar, even though we weren't hungry, as it's home to the original Buffalo wing. They were delicious!

Stay:

The Mansion on Delaware Ave. Although we didn't stay here, it's in a good location, south of the museums and north of downtown. We did stay at The Richardson Hotel, which has seen a bit of a decline since it first opened pre-pandemic. It was still really cool though, not many people can stay they've slept in a historic landmark that was once a State asylum for the insane.

Treating

We’ve been absolutely loving Creemore’s new gem, Chin Chin, the indie wine shop! Tammy and Kieran are the loveliest owners. It’s an inviting, cozy spot where you can sip a glass right there and chat with others at the bar or pick up a bottle to enjoy at home. They offer a fantastic selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic wines, so it's the perfect spot for everyone!

We hope you enjoyed our Fall R.E.P.O.R.T! What are you REPORTing this month?

xx the 2DAs
